About the Range

Butt Zero is a versatile gallery range located on the left hand side of Stickledown range. It is the home to target shotgun events, the 'bianchi', and also permits Sec 5 firearms and large hunting calibres on specific NRA organised dates. 

The range permits shooting from 5m - 75m and consists of 3 bays. 

The left hand bay has 8 collapsible barricades and 10 turning targets. 

The centre bay has 15 turning targets and a moving target. 

The right hand bay is for NRA events only and consists of 4 static target lanes. 

Each range booking made will include the use of the left and centre bays.

Firearms permitted

Rifles

Maximum muzzle velocity: 1000 m/s (3280 ft/s)

Mazimum Muzzle Energy 4500J (3319 ft/lb)

HME Permitted 4500J - 7000J (HME procedures apply)

 

Gallery Rifles & Pistols

Maximum Muzzle Velocity 655 m/s (2150 ft/s)

Maximum Muzzle Energy 2030J (1496 ft/lb)

 

Shotguns

12 - 32 Bore (including .410 bore)

Frangible targets: SG or smaller shot

Slug must be notified at the time of the booking

Special Requirements

Permission to shoot at hard targets must be requested. See range regulations for permitted firearms requirements.

Large Calibre hunting rifles are permitted during NRA organised and pre-announced events. They are not permitted for routine shooting. 

Section 5 firearm are permitted with prior permission in writing from the Chief Executive.

Facilities

Parking:

  • Vehicles are permitted to park at the back of the range within the designated car park. 
  • Vehicles are not permitted to park along the road side

Toilets:

  • The nearest toilets are by Melville range

Targetry

Backing boards:

  • PL7
  • DP1
  • DP2
  • B1 (1500)
  • Blank

Steel targets:

  • Swinging (2x sets of 3)
  • Knockdown (2x sets of 3)

Moving Target

  • Laterally running deer or backing board with above target face
  • 20m run over 6seconds

Costs

Range Hire:

  • £144.50 per half day
  • £87.50 for 2hrs (subject to availability). 0930 - 1130 and 1330 - 1530

Targetry:

  • £6.60 per standard backing board
  • £9 per premium shotgun backing board
  • Steel targets £11 per set

How to book

Select the range as either Butt Zero or Butt Zero (2 hourly).

Select the number of lanes as 1 (this accounts for the whole range).

For backing boards please ensure you select the correct type  (standard or shotgun).

Multiple backing boards boxes can be selected to create a larger number.

Please note high season weekend bookings will only be permitted approximately 1 month in advance.
